Australia's cinematic achievement on the world stage has reached a new pinnacle with "Red Desert," a stunning Indigenous-Australian co-production, winning the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Yolŋu filmmaker Witiyana Marika Jr., the film explores themes of land rights, identity, and colonial memory through a contemporary lens.

The win was greeted with jubilation by Australia's arts community and Indigenous leaders, many of whom saw the recognition as long overdue for First Nations storytelling. The film is set for Australian release in September.
