Australia has signed a landmark trade agreement with six Southeast Asian nations, a deal that economists say could add billions to the national economy over the next decade. The agreement, finalised after three years of negotiations, covers goods, services, and digital trade.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hailed the deal as a "historic milestone" in a ceremony held in Singapore. Agriculture, resources, education, and financial services are among the key beneficiaries.
The agreement reduces tariffs on over 95% of Australian goods entering partner markets, while opening doors for Australian service providers in sectors including fintech and professional services.
