A group of Northern Territory schools has commenced a pilot program introducing artificial intelligence-powered tutoring systems into classrooms. The initiative, funded by a federal technology grant, aims to improve educational outcomes in remote communities where teacher shortages remain a persistent challenge.
The AI platforms can adapt lesson plans to individual student performance, provide real-time feedback, and flag at-risk learners to teachers and counsellors.
Early results from Darwin pilot schools show a 22% improvement in literacy scores among year 4 students over a single semester. The program is expected to roll out to 40 additional schools by the end of the year.
