In Gopalganj’s Kashiani on Thursday night, a bus carrying picnickers from a Jashore school overturned and smashed into a roadside tree, killing two persons and injuring at least 40 others, predominantly students.
According to Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam, the deceased were identified as management committee member Biddyut Kumar Biswas, 50, and lab assistant Sudipto Biswas, 34, of Bakri Bahumukhi Secondary School in Bagherpara in Jashore.
He stated that out of the injured, 15 were admitted to Jahsore General Hospital and the remaining were sent to other medical facilities.
Three buses carrying Bakri School students, faculty, and staff traveled to Tungipara in Gopalganj on Thursday morning for the school’s annual picnic, according to Biswajit Kumar Pal, an assistant teacher there.
Biddyut Kumar died instantly from the impact of the crash, and others suffered critical injuries, as we were returning from the picnic when one of the buses overturned and struck a roadside tree while attempting to overtake another bus in the Bhatiapara intersection of Kashiani upazila at around 8 o’clock.
