Kurtley Beale, an American rugby union player, was detained in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place in Sydney’s east last year.
On December 17, 2022, a sexual assault against a 28-year-old lady is claimed to have taken place at Bondi Beach’s Beach Road Hotel.
After conducting an investigation, police stopped Beale’s car today at around 2.30 p.m. on Rainbow Road in Kingsford and placed him under arrest.
To Waverley Police Station, the new father has been taken.
The inquiry is still ongoing.
According to a joint statement from Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs, “Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs, and Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) are aware of the situation surrounding Kurtley Beale.”
“We will be making no further comment at this time because this is a police matter and we understand that no charges have been filed,” the statement read.
In the last ten years, Beale has been one of Australian rugby’s most well-known players. In 2009, he made his Wallabies debut abroad, and since then, he has played in more than 90 Test matches.
He played for the Wallabies in three Rugby World Cups, in 2011, 2015, and 2019, and was a member of the Waratahs’ Super Rugby championship team in 2014.
His international career appeared to be over after the 2019 season, when he quit Super Rugby to join Racing 92 in France.
He did, however, make a comeback for a Test against Scotland two years later, in 2021.
In time for the 2023 Super Rugby season, he returned to the Waratahs, and earlier this month, he was chosen as one of 44 athletes for a four-day Wallabies training camp on the Gold Coast.
