In Coffs Harbour, two alleged sovereign citizens who claimed the New South Wales Police “had no jurisdiction” have been detained.
The two refused to cooperate with police yesterday just before 1pm during a minor traffic check on the Pacific Highway, as seen in a video of an officer breaking a car glass.
When asked for their identities and driver’s licenses, the man and woman are seen repeatedly saying to the police, “I’m not in your jurisdiction” and “you have no power here.”
The police threatened to break the window if the couple did not cooperate.
The vehicle was stopped on the motorway, according to NSW Police, who claimed to have been patrolling the area.
The vehicle’s registration had expired in July 2022, according to further checks, the NSW Police stated in a statement.
The driver, a 52-year-old woman, was interviewed by police when it was discovered that she was wanted on two active arrest warrants for crimes involving domestic violence.
The woman was ultimately detained by police, who then took her to the Coffs Harbour Police Station where she allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test.
She was charged with having outstanding warrants, operating an unregistered motor vehicle on the road, operating an uninsured motor vehicle on the road, failing to pay motor vehicle taxes, operating an uninsured motor vehicle on the road, and refusing to produce her driver’s license, state identification, or her address, according to the police.
The woman was scheduled to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today but was denied bail.
