Following a police investigation, a 38-year-old man from rural New South Wales has been charged with many child abuse offenses.
Detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad will claim in court that the guy distributed several online files that were thought to be child abuse materials.
Six hours north-west of Sydney, in Armidale, on the NSW Northern Tablelands, authorities seized a computer and other electronic equipment this morning.
At the Armidale Police Station, the man was charged with two charges of possessing child abuse materials as well as one count each of using a carriage service to access child abuse materials and possessing bestiality materials.
He was given a conditional release and ordered to show up in court on February 6 at Armidale Local Court.
Parents were cautioned by police to keep an eye on what their children were doing online.
Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty, commander of the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad, advised people to call their local police immediately if they came across any unsettling content online.
We have specialized officers that look into cases of children being sexually exploited online and through telecommunications systems, but we can only assist if the incidents are reported.
