A young man was shot and killed inside a home in the NSW Hunter Region, and the shooter is currently on the run.
On Tuesday night, emergency personnel were called to a residence in Heddon Greta, a small town about 20 kilometers to the east of Cessnock.
Officers arrived and discovered the 25-year-old with at least one gunshot wound.
He passed away at the spot because paramedics were unable to save him.
Official identification has been made of the victim, who was a resident of the home.
The location was set up as a crime scene, and forensic experts searched it.
Six adults and two children were present at the time of the incident, according to Superintendent Tracy Chapman, the district commander for the Hunter Valley Police Department.
No other people were hurt. They are aiding the police in their investigations.
We don’t think that this was a random strike at this time, Chapman told reporters.
“It does seem to have been targeted.”
She said that the 25-year-old was only “very slightly” familiar to police and that there was no evidence linking the shooting to the bikie community.
According to Chapman, the perpetrator most likely left the area in a “motor vehicle”. What the car looks like is unknown.
Police are now pleading with anyone who may have dashcam footage or information to come forward who was in the area at the time.
The shooting is being looked into by Strike Force Roslyn.
Calling Crime Stoppers is strongly advised for anyone with information.
