Dhaka—The Assembly of the Republic (Parliament) of Portugal has established the first-ever Portugal-Bangladesh Friendship Parliamentary Group, which consists of 10 members.
According to a statement from the Bangladesh Mission on Friday, Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic (Deputy Speaker of Parliament) Dr. Ado Silva formally acknowledged this to Bangladesh Ambassador Tarik Ahsan in Lisbon.
It stated that two other countries from South Asia and 58 other nations have just been added to the list of parliamentary friendship groups for the 15th Parliament of Portugal, including Bangladesh.
Dr. Ado Silva, Deputy Speaker of the Portuguese Parliament and member of the center-right Social Democratic Party, would lead the aforementioned Group (PSD).
Parliamentary Groups for Friendship of Portugal have the responsibility of interacting and working with the legislatures of other nations that are close allies of Portugal. They are in charge of encouraging the actions required to strengthen ties with other countries’ parliaments and lawmakers, particularly in terms of knowledge and experience exchange, information sharing and consultations, and the promotion of shared interests in the political, economic, social, and cultural spheres.
This is the result of a suggestion for parliamentary cooperation made during a meeting in Lisbon in May 2022 between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahariar Alam, MP, and Deputy Speaker Dr. Ado Silva.
The establishment of this Group is unquestionably a friendly act by the Portuguese people toward Bangladesh and it will deepen their connection.
