On Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal declared that no party would be coerced into running in the next presidential election.
After holding a viewpoints-exchange meeting in the conference room of the district administration with higher officials of the Barishal division, regional election officers, and officers of the district election office, he made the comment while speaking to press.
We sent the BNP a letter inviting them to participate in dialogue, but they have so far expressed their lack of confidence in us. The government is sincere about the BNP’s intention to participate in the election, the official said.
According to CEC Awal, they aim to maintain a calm environment for staging a fair election so that voters can freely cast their ballots.
He pledged that they would work with the administration to arrange an election that was fair, impartial, and inclusive.
He added that they wanted to hold the next election in cooperation with the administration and that “administrative officials informed us that they would carry out their duties in compliance with the constitution as servants of the republic.”
