Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said “Permanent migrants are needed to address the skilled labor deficit. It is not possible to fill our huge labor deficit with temporary migrants”.
The Prime Minister told reporters on Monday that the permanent presence of migrant workers would make a ‘significant difference’ for industries facing long-term shortages.
A conference on jobs and skills is going to be held in Parliament on September 1 and 2 in Canberra. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister addressed a press conference.
Anthony Albanese sees immigration and visa issues as challenges to labor skills shortages. According to him, Australia needs to create a better path for permanent migrant workers.
Australia’s ‘visa backlog’ has been exacerbated by the long-standing Liberal government in power. Since the new Labor government came to power, it has been working with priority to solve the problem.
The Prime Minister told reporters that our government has inherited a huge ‘visa backlog’.
He pointed to the previous government and asked reporters, “For certain occupations, which have been in short supply for so long, have been ignored and relied on temporary migrants.” We should have thought of more permanent immigrants. ‘
The Prime Minister told the media, “There are some short-term shortages of skilled workers, which will always have to be filled through temporary migration. But the permanent labor shortage cannot be filled with temporary migrants. We have a global labor market that needs to be exploited. ”
“There is a better way to have a permanent presence in Australia, so that immigrants can give us the skills they need,” he added.
‘During Corona, of course, we faced a terrible challenge. Permanent immigration to Australia will create a great opportunity for us to meet that challenge,” he added.
Australia’s ruling Labor government is known as ‘immigration friendly’. When they are in power, they open various opportunities for foreign nationals. Returning to power after 11 years, the party has taken steps to simplify immigration laws for immigrants.
