The Australian government has issued about 6,000 temporary humanitarian visas for Ukrainian refugees since the start of the Russian aggression. About 1,600 of them have so far arrived in Australia. Many of those receiving humanitarian visas and most of them are Ukrainian student.

Hundreds of students fleeing Ukraine have been asked by Australian academics to study at various universities free of charge.

The letter, which was sent to Australian universities to consider undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for Ukrainian students, was signed by 140 of the country’s academics.

The letter said thousands of Ukrainian students were unable to continue their studies in their home country. Because the Russian military is bombing their cities.

It added that thousands of people were protesting against the war in Ukraine every day and that many had been arrested since the conflict began. Among them are many university students.

Meanwhile, the Australian National University (ANU) and La Trobe University have promised to provide specific scholarships to Ukrainian students.

A spokesman for ANU said it had a scholarship program for Ukrainian students for two semesters this year.

Before the Russian invasion, Julie Trachuk had just one year left to complete her master’s degree in marketing in Kiev, Ukraine. He fled to Australia. Trachuk’s aunt and cousin took him on a train to Warsaw, Poland, before arranging for him to flee to Australia.

“If students from Poland, Germany, Canada or any other country can continue their studies, it will be easier for me in Australia,” Julie Trachuk told SBS News.
