Australia’s federal election will be held on May 21. The election will be held in 151 seats in the lower room and 40 seats in the Senate. So far, the country’s main opposition Labor Party has a 10 percent more lead in various polls.
The Labor Party is the choice of most Bangladeshi living people in Australia and for immigrants from other countries. Their idea is that the Labor Party is an ‘immigrant-friendly’ political organization. In the past, whenever they were in power, they gave various facilities to the immigrants. The Labor Party is very humane, especially on the refugee issue.
The Labor Party won 55 percent of the vote in the last federal election but failed to form a government because the Liberals formed the government with a few more small parties as the majority.
Political experts believe that there will be fierce competition between the two main political parties in this election.
Citizens are quite satisfied with the role of the present government in tackling the Covid pandemic in the last 3 years. On the other hand, the ruling party has been widely criticized for its conservative behavior, budget cuts in the education and health sectors, and additionally blindly support for Western politics.
Opposition leader Anthony Albanese, on the other hand, is widely regarded as a man with a clean image.
It has been reported that several Bangladeshis from two main political parties will join in this year’s federal election. It is expected that all political parties will announce the final names of their candidates within this week.
With the opportunity to vote in advance starting May 9, the election campaign has already begun across Australia. People from the Bangladeshi community living in Australia are also now talking about voting. Several Bangladeshis in the community have spoken about the federal election.
In the last federal election, Shah Zaman Titu contested from the Liberal Party. He became the first Bangladeshi to take part in this election and become a part of history. He is working for the Liberal Party as president of the Lakemba branch.
Titu said, “Anthony Albanese has no idea about the country’s economy. In today’s complex and political map, there is no other choice for a competent leader to come to the power in a country like Australia. The Australians will re-elect Scott Morrison.”
According to Mohammad Abdul Matin, president of the Australia-Bangladesh Journalists Association, the biggest problem facing the ruling Liberal Party government in this election could be the mismanagement of the Corona and the catastrophic flood crisis. Meanwhile, Labor leader Anthony Albanese is known to voters as an honest man. So many are hoping that the Labor Party will win this election.
Ratan Kundu, president of the Bangabandhu Parishad in Australia, thinks Scott Morrison, the prime minister and leader of the ruling Liberal Party, blames others and does not want to admit his mistakes. From the bushfire to the covid vaccine rollout, Australians have suffered a lot because of issues such as not being able to test fast enough.
Ratan Kundu also said, “Labor leader Anthony Albanese, on the other hand, is a personally conscious and far-sighted leader. He announced several pro-people programs including expanding Medicare facilities, ensuring health care for all, reducing the cost of services for children and adults, reducing income tax, reducing the debt burden of the middle class, and increasing job opportunities. So I believe the Labor Party will come to power this time.”
“We want a leader who can make Australia more dynamic and stronger,” said Kazi Arman, editor of the Swadhin Kantha, a newspaper based in Australia. Hopefully, in the next election, the people of Australia will not make a mistake in choosing their leader.
Polly Farhad ran as an independent candidate in the last council elections in Australia said, “The cost of living has gone up. No matter which party comes to power, they should keep in mind issues related to public transport, petrol and rising property prices. Let them work for the people like friends of the people. That is my expectation.”
