Russia has been invading Ukraine for more than a week. The country has been criticized by different countries of the world. Ordinary Russians are also protesting the attack on Ukraine. In this context, the Putin government has banned Facebook. The use of Twitter and YouTube has also been restricted in the country. Citizens of the country are seen using VPN (Virtual Private Network) for social media.

On Friday (March 5th), the country’s media regulatory body imposed a ban on “Raskamanazdar”. The agency said the decision was made in response to “discriminatory” treatment of Russian media and sites.

“Since October 2020, we have received at least 26 cases where Facebook has discriminated against the Russian media,” the agency said in a statement.

The Russian government has taken this decision in the wake of allegations that Facebook has recently taken away access to the accounts of Russian media RT and Sputnik.

The country has been shut down by the BBC, Voice of America, Deutsche Welle for allegedly spreading false information about the Ukraine war.
