Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called on Australians not to take up arms in support of the fight against Russian aggression.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the people of the world to join the fight against Russia. He says anyone in the world can join their defense in the fight against Russia.
The Prime Minister of Australia urged the citizens not to go to war in Ukraine.
According to SBS News, the Ukrainian embassy in Canberra has received 20 telephone calls in the last 24 hours from Australians interested in joining the fight for Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Australia told reporters on Monday: “I fully understand the importance of reaching out to people and expressing strong feelings. However, I would like to emphasize that I would advise Australians not to go to Ukraine for their safety.
Ukrainian civilians are fighting at gunpoint to counter Russia’s onslaught.
Under Australian law, an Australian cannot engage in war with another country unless he or she has served in the armed forces abroad.
UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, however, gave a different message about UK citizens joining the war.
“It’s a matter where people can make their own decisions,” he told BBC One’s Sunday Morning Show.
“The people of Ukraine are fighting for freedom and democracy,” he said. That fight is not just for Ukraine, it is for the whole of Europe. If people want to support that struggle, I will definitely support them. ‘
Due to the security situation and the military conflict with Ukraine, Australian citizens have been banned from traveling to Russia.
The Australian government has so far pledged to supply 4 million dollar valued medical and military equipment to Ukraine through NATO partners.
