It was Australian cricketing great Merv Hughes who saved English cricket great Ian Botham from shark and crocodile-infested waters in the Northern Territory, Botham revealed in an Instagram post.
Last week, the 68-year-old allegedly fell from a fishing boat after tripping over a rope.
While on a four-day fishing excursion in the Barramundi when the Englishman fell, Botham and Hughes were far from their feuding heydey.
While I was very close to being the day’s most successful fisherman with the crocodiles and bull sharks, the barra ended up taking the cake.
“I am so grateful to you guys for helping me get out,” Botham wrote on Instagram.
As Botham was being transferred to a different boat, his thongs reportedly became entangled in a knot.
After tumbling into the water, he suffered serious side bruises.
He was rescued from the water by Hughes and a few other fisherman who were present.
