A fatal speedway accident on the first night of Adelaide’s summer season claimed the life of a seasoned flat track motorcycle racer.
Last night, rescuers battled valiantly to preserve the life of the 42-year-old man, whose shocked family members watched helplessly as he competed in the same marathon.
After colliding with the racer who had fallen ahead of him, Troy Knights was flung from his bike.
Two friends reportedly crashed, according to witnesses.
Just after 10 o’clock at night, emergency personnel hurried to the speedway to spend hours anxiously attempting to stabilise Knights.
However, he passed away not long after reaching the hospital.
“Devastating” was the word used by speedway worker Mick Potter.
“I feel for his family, we have lost a few in motocross over the years,” stated the driver.
Efforts to save Troy’s life were witnessed by his family, who felt helpless.
His sibling Dale was also competing in the same event.
According to the president of the speedway, last night the track gave counseling to riders, officials, and family members.
The 28th season of the summer series kicked off at the Adelaide venue with this event.
