A guy is facing murder charges following the discovery of another man with stab wounds in Adelaide’s central business district.
At around 8 o’clock in the evening, after receiving reports of a stabbing, emergency services discovered Lewis Parkin outside a backpackers lodging complex on Hindley Street with critical injuries to his chest.
As paramedics worked feverishly on the 23-year-old, who is the son of a serving police officer, the party strip was closed and traffic was redirected.
Despite being quickly transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, he succumbed shortly thereafter.
The victim knew the accused, according to the South African Police Service, but he fled the scene before they could reach him.
Not long after that, a man of 42 years of age was discovered next to the Torrens River. He has already been rejected bail after being charged with murder.
It has been reported that about 8 o’clock last night, a quarrel broke out in the corridor adjacent to the kitchen at the backpacker’s.
The altercation then escalated, resulting in bloodstains throughout the premises.
Residents of the accommodation were in shock after losing a buddy, and they watched in horror as police collected evidence at the scene today.
Friend Finlay Weth of Parkin described himself as “shocked” and “not sure what to do” in that situation.
“He’s the one person I’ve been friends with while I’ve been over here.”
After hearing of Parkin’s passing, another friend, Aurelia Pozzi, paid tribute to him.
“Lewis, rest in peace, you’re a good guy and we’ll miss you,” remarked Pozzi.
On November 11th, the defendants are scheduled to make their appearance before the Adelaide Magistrates Court.
