The body of a youngster, thought to be eleven years old, washed ashore on Sunday off the central coast of New South Wales.
Tragically, 11-year-old Laith Alaid was carried away on Sunday as he attempted to across The Entrance Channel.
Reports of a body recovered in the water prompted emergency services to be summoned to The Entrance around 2.30pm today.
The victim has not been officially named, but the NSW Police believe it to be 11-year-old Alaid.
Dozens of agencies were involved in the search, which continued for three days.
We were “deeply moved” by the community’s support, the Alaid family stated in a statement they posted yesterday afternoon.
They added that they “remained hopeful.”
While trying to cross the channel, Laith, his father, and siblings fell into problems while fishing.
As the boy’s father attempted to contact him, bystanders hurried to the family’s aid, taking care of the other siblings.
But he failed miserably, and the 11-year-old was carried away by the tide and vanished into thin air.
