On this, the one-year anniversary of the Daylesford tragedy, in which a car slammed into a group of diners, killing five people, a memorial service was held.
A mournful funeral was held in Victoria today, with dozens of people gathering to show their support.
The service was filled with flowers and tears.
Last year, outside the Royal Daylesford Hotel, a white BMW SUV slammed into Pratibha Sharma, her daughter Anvi, Jatin Kumar, their friend Vivek Bhatia, and his son Vihaan, killing all six of them.
According to Vikas, Pratibha’s brother, the families were thankful for the community’s assistance following their deaths, but they still lived in sorrow.
“We are suffering, we lost five people,” stated the man.
“But thanks to the Daylesford community, they support us like a family member.”
The funeral procession was joined by emergency personnel who extended their sympathies to the family.
“I remember the scene of utter chaos and destruction,” said Glenn Webster, captain of the Daylesford Country Fire Authority.
“I don’t want them to wonder what it was like for their loved ones. “I want them to know that they were with another human being who was caring for them, looking after them.”
When William Swale, who was driving the BMW, had a diabetic episode and careened into the beer garden, he crashed.
In September, all charges were dismissed against the 67-year-old.
Prosecutors stated they will not be re-filing any criminal charges following their examination of the case.
But the victims’ families are thinking about filing a civil lawsuit because they feel justice has been denied in this instance.
