Sadly, this morning a renowned Perth beach lost an off-duty police officer who was rescued from the water.
At around 10:30 in the morning, reports of a distressed diver prompted the dispatch of emergency personnel to Trigg Beach.
Multiple rescue agencies searched for a woman in her 40s before finally finding her and bringing her to shore.
The woman passed away at the site, despite attempts to provide first assistance.
A statement from the WA Police Force confirmed that the diver was a sworn member who was off duty when the incident occurred.
“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm this,” the force added.
To her loved ones and coworkers, we offer our most profound sympathies and sorrow.
First responders deal with potentially fatal circumstances every day, but it’s particularly tough for our cops when one of their own is involved.
People affected by this tragedy will receive support from our Health, Welfare and Safety Division.
The deceased’s family has asked for privacy at this very sad time.
Nobody is looking into the cause of death.
