The search for a missing 11-year-old kid, who went fishing with his family on the NSW Central Coast yesterday, will start again tomorrow morning.
Today, the community came together to support the family, who had recently moved from Iraq to Granville in western Sydney, and they demanded more safety measures near the river.
While returning across The Entrance Channel at approximately 5.15 p.m. yesterday, a father of 43 years and his four sons had difficulties while fishing.
When the ocean tide swept away the oldest child, two passers-by helped save three youngsters, ages 3, 7, and 11.
His son vanished into the ocean as his father desperately tried to reach out to him.
“We heard yelling out and looked over and saw a man rushing through the water and then noticed a little boy in the water with his arm up,” Sarah Bailey, who witnessed the incident.
“And then the next minute the boy was gone, we just couldn’t see him.”
The police, aided by members of Surf Life Saving, immediately began a thorough search on land, in the air, and at sea.
Due to low light, two rescue helicopters were also tethered to the search.
At approximately 12:15 in the morning, the search was canceled. At 8 in the morning today, it was revived.
Even though they didn’t find the youngster, police divers today did find the picnic chair he was carrying.
The family’s native tongue is not English, according to the police.
The channel warning signs are already up, but the locals want them translated into more languages.
