After becoming embroiled in an affair with a staffer, Victorian Greens MP Sam Hibbins was compelled to resign from the party.
He is currently confronting more “serious allegations” regarding his conduct. This morning, the Prahran lawmaker—a married father of two—came clean about his affair with a member of his staff.
Following Tuesday evening’s disclosure of the affair to party leader Ellen Sandell, Hibbins was informed that she was being fired from her position as co-deputy leader of the Victorian Greens and suspended from the party room.
Sandell stated that she got “serious and concerning allegations” regarding his behavior, in contrast to Hibbins’s description of the affair as “short” and “consensual” that concluded “some time ago”.
So as to conceal the identity of the employee, she refrained from specifying what those other accusations are.
“I hope you’ll understand that there are a number of details that I cannot share in order to maintain this privacy,” stated Sandell.
“Women do not deserve to have their lives dragged through the media because of the behaviour of men.”.
She stated that Hibbins is not under investigation by the Victoria Police.
“My anger is boiling over. Sandell emphasized that everyone, particularly women, should be treated with dignity and ensured a safe working environment. “The member for Prahran has completely lost my trust, and the trust of his colleagues, and he will never be welcomed back to our party room.”
“A very human mistake” was how Hibbins put his acting out. “We are human, and we make mistakes,” he pointed out.
“The important thing is making amends and focusing on what really matters.”It is, without a doubt, my lovely family.
Instead of resigning from parliament due to the scandal, Hibbins will become an independent by joining the crossbench.
