The Mount Lofty Ranges and Metropolitan Adelaide are two of six locations in South Australia that have had their fire danger periods advanced by two weeks, meaning that the state is preparing for a wildfire season that could be devastatingly early.
“We are concerned about the bushfire season across large parts of South Australia,” stated Brett Loughlin, chief officer of the Country Fire Service.
“We’re going to see the first real evidence of that risk this weekend with hot and windy conditions on Saturday.”
Having burned off large amounts of fuel in preparation for a potentially hazardous summer, firefighters are worried about becoming complacent in addition to battling fires.
A large number of people do not have a strategy in place to deal with bushfires, according to a poll, so the CFS is asking people to get their homes ready.
