A mother from Queensland who had her arm severed by her own dog has spoken out about the terrifying moment she felt she would die alone.
On October 11, Annmarie Walters was attacked by her loyal dog Buddy after she asserted that the sound of someone pounding on her front door had roused the canine.
“He lunged through the air and I had enough time to spin around and grab him when he caught my left arm,” said the 34-year-old.
While the mixed-breed ridgeback attacked Walters at her Garbutt house in the Townsville region of the state, she attempted to maintain composure.
Walters stated that the dog “went into a frenzy” and grabbed onto her other arm when a neighbor attempted to de-escalate the situation by throwing a knife at her.
“He pulled back three times and off goes the arm,” she remarked.
A mother from Queensland who had her arm severed by her own dog has spoken out about the terrifying moment she felt she would die alone.
The seven-year-old dog Buddy attacked his owner, Annmarie Walters, on October 11.
Walters had asserted that the dog had been startled by the sound of someone pounding on her front door.
“I was a little bit relieved once that came off because there was less pain.”
The victim, a 34-year-old man, underwent emergency surgery after losing liters of blood in the incident.
“I thought this is going to be great, I’m going to die alone,” she pointed out.
“They actually told me that I actually died twice during the operation.”
Just weeks after the dog had attacked a neighbor in a different instance, the dog returned to her home and was fatally shot by police.
“It’s traumatic obviously, in the fact that I’ve lost my dog and I’ve lost my arm,” added the woman. I had faith in his abilities, but I had no idea he would actually achieve that.
“I didn’t think he’d do such damage.”
Despite Walters’s ongoing insistence that the dog was not to blame, the incident has rendered her permanently disabled.
“All dogs are capable of causing severe injury to humans,” according to her.
