In the Adelaide neighborhood of Mitchell Park, a 68-year-old woman was allegedly attacked.
As additional information surfaced and the teenager accused with the crime appeared in court, the local community was left reeling.
Today, radio host Stacey Lee—a relative of the victim—described her injuries.
“She has scars and bruises and gashes on her face,” stated Lee.
“She has some injuries to her hand and wrist so she has been in hospital all weekend and is awaiting surgery.”
Even though a 17-year-old accused of the assault made her initial court appearance today, authorities are still looking for anyone else who may have been involved.
Although South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas denied that teenage criminality is an escalating concern, this incident was one of dozens involving youths in the preceding week.
“We saw in the most recent crime data that crime has actually gone down in a whole suite of areas in South Australia,” according to him.
The incident’s 17-year-old suspect appeared before the minor court on multiple charges, including severe assault.
Since he did not request bail, he will be held in jail until his next court appearance next month.
