Two small planes went down in an accident this morning in Sydney’s southwest, killing three individuals on board.
A significant emergency reaction was initiated in the area of Belimbla Park near Oakdale prior to noon as a result of the collision between Jabiru and Cessna 182.
One plane crashed, killing two men, and the other plane crashed, killing the pilot.
Debris was scattered among the woods after the plane crashed into the rear of a rural house.
Fire had broken out in the bush, making it impossible for the locals who had rushed to the scene to reach the location and provide assistance.
Before firefighters could reach the debris, the Rural Fire Service put out the fires.
Natasha Xuereb, a local, reported hearing a loud explosion and then saw large plumes of black smoke billowing from the nearby area.
“It’s really frightening to know that it’s just happened right at the back here and we feel helpless too.”
The public was asked to stay away from the area where police had set up two crime scenes.
A team from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will look into what caused the accident.
“A team of transport safety investigators from the ATSB’s Canberra office, with experience in aircraft operations and maintenance, is preparing to deploy to the accident sites of both aircraft to begin evidence-collecting activities,” according to a statement issued by the investigator.
