An accident between a truck and a car on the Bruce Highway yesterday afternoon resulted in the rapid transport to the hospital of five individuals, including a young girl and a baby.
Near Maryborough in the northbound direction, at approximately 5.40 p.m., a truck was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Swift traveling in the other direction.
Responders wasted little time in arriving at the site of the accident after the truck started fire.
Among the four occupants of the Suzuki, a 28-year-old male sustained potentially fatal head trauma and was subsequently sent to the hospital.
Hervey Bay Hospital was notified of a young girl’s life-threatening injuries to her chest, head, and limbs.
Also carried in stable condition was the driver, a 25-year-old woman.
According to a spokeswoman from Queensland Ambulance, an infant boy sustained head injuries but is currently in a stable condition.
A guy in his 40s who was driving the truck was slightly hurt.
Both lanes of the highway were temporarily blocked, but are now open again.
The cause of the incident is being sought after by forensic crash investigators.
