Ahead of their first royal tour of Australia, King Charles and Queen Camilla have landed in wet Sydney tonight.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon, Governor-General Sam Mostyn, NSW Governor Margaret Beazley, Premier Chris Minns and other dignitaries greeted the royals.
The Sydney Opera House lit its sails with imagery from the couple’s past visits to signal Their Majesties’ arrival to Australia.
From the airport, King Charles and Queen Camilla went to Admiralty House for a private reception alongside Albanese and Haydon.
The monarchs shared their enthusiasm in a rare personal statement on social media before arriving in Australia.
“Ahead of our first visit to Australia as King and Queen, we are really looking forward returning to this beautiful country to celebrate the extraordinarily rich cultures and communities that make it so special,” they said in a post to X, the social networking platform formerly known as Twitter.
Following the long commercial journey, the pair will relax on Saturday and begin their tour activities on Sunday.
Tonight the Sydney Opera House shells will be lit with a Royal projection as NSW greets King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Sydney.
Starting at 8pm and ending at midnight, the projection is a well chosen four-minute photo montage featuring photographs from their past journeys to NSW and Australia.
The photographs capture the several ways in which Their Majesties have interacted with and honoured our state and country over the years.

With a $5 million race honouring the King, there had been conjecture about the royals attending The Everest race day at Randwick Racecourse.
UK royal correspondents have nevertheless noted the King will save his energies for the rest of the hectic program rather than attending the race day.
King Charles’s first significant overseas journey since his February cancer diagnosis marks here.
According to daily mirror assistant editor Russell Myers, His Majesty has been emphasising his health prior to the trip.
On A Current Affair Myers stated, “I think it speaks volumes about his character, and about the fact that he has even paused his treatment for a week and has been working very, very hard on his recovery.”
