The crime spree of a gang of young people was interrupted when a granddad from Cairns conducted a citizen’s arrest in his home.
A 15-year-old youngster was pinned to the ground and made to sit by Winnie Vaili while the cops arrived.
Apparent break-in by teens about 4 o’clock this morning roused Mr. Vaili, his wife, seven children, and two grandchildren.
One of the teens was pinned to the ground as the grandpa went after them.
“I had him pinned here with his face and the second one’s come with the knife” said he.
I was in bed with my wife, and our youngest child was with us as well. Someone ran past us, and we heard a faint bump.
“The first offenders run out and the second one’s attempted to get away, I managed to get a good spear tackle in there and pin him down.”
Angela Vaili, who is married to Mr. Vaili, remembered when one of the teens allegedly turned on her while brandishing a knife.
Teen, who was too young to drive, is in critical condition following a car crash that severely damaged a hospital.
“I looked up and I’ve seen the other offender come back with a knife and was just coming towards me,” stated the woman.
An allegedly stolen getaway vehicle was waiting with two other teens. There are three exceptional teens.
Police swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended the juvenile, who was apprehended by Mr. Vaili during the citizen’s arrest.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court tomorrow morning to face five charges.
