Separate from his brother’s alleged child abuse charges, the late and shamed swimming coach Dick Caine’s brother has also been charged.
Today, Brian Kearny—who does not share his older brother’s surname or profile—appeared before a magistrate at Newcastle Local Court, looking taken aback by the presence of cameras.
The 73-year-old is Richard Kearny’s (Dick Caine) younger brother.
Six female swimmers were raped and abused by Caine, a formerly famous swimming coach, at Carrs Park and Cronulla pools as far back as fifty years ago, according to a recent court ruling.
Following a more than two-year fight with cancer, the 78-year-old passed away in a scandal last month.
Kearny is now facing eight accusations, including indecent and common assault, sexually contacting a kid between the ages of 10 and 16, stalking and intimidation, and unrelated allegations.
Between 2012 and last year, the alleged incidents occurred in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
Neither the accusations nor his brother’s death were topics that Kearny chose to address today.
Next month, the case will be heard again, and he has not yet entered a plea.
