A 75-year-old man was charged for allegedly taking a box cutter knife onboard an international flight departing from Sydney earlier this year.
On July 23, airline officials discovered the plane as it was about to depart for Los Angeles.
Australian Federal Police were called to the plane, and the box cutter was confiscated.
AFP officers examined airline employees, passengers, and a US air marshal who were all on board the flight.
Police searched the plane, and all passengers went through security screening.
A 75-year-old man from the Central Coast was examined by AFP authorities and handed a court attendance notice for allegedly possessing a forbidden item aboard an aircraft.
The maximum penalty for this offence is two years in prison.
He will appear in court today.
