Following a house fire in Melbourne, two little girls passed away in the hospital.
About 9.30 p.m. on Sunday, three-year-old Kalais, her stepbrother, and five-year-old Izabelle were saved from the flaming house in Sydenham together with their sister, who was 21 months old.
According to police, the boy is still in critical condition and the girls passed away this morning in the hospital surrounded by their families.
The Arson and Explosives Squad detectives are looking into the incident.
They’re trying to figure out who was in the house right before and during the incident, as well as what might have started the fire.
Jayde Petalas, Kalais’ father, who does not reside in the residence, expressed his heartbreak last week upon receiving a call from the police regarding the fire.
“Those were the cutest young children. He said, “They would have been terrified.” To be honest, I hope they felt nothing. Though it seems obvious, I merely convince myself that they didn’t.”
According to the police, the mother and children moved into the home a week prior to the fire.
They are trying to find out if she was at home when the fire happened.
