Perth police described the sight as “traumatising” after a 23-year-old man lost his life after his car crashed into a tree and broke into pieces.
Just seconds before the collision, officers were pursuing the black Holden Statesman on Canning Highway in Attadale, in the southern suburbs of Perth.
At around 4:40 a.m. today, authorities claim they saw the fast vehicle travelling east on Canning Highway in Attadale and turned on their lights and sirens.
Shortly after, the vehicle struck a tree on the median island; the accident was captured on camera by a local CCTV system, and law enforcement officers trailed shortly behind.
When they heard the crash in the middle of the night, the locals hurried to help.
“I got up straight away because I thought maybe I’d be able to help so I ran out and I was there within a second of it happening,” witness Tom Fay said.

Because of the tremendous force of the collision, the car was torn apart and left in fragments that were strewn across several meters on both sides of the road.
The male driver, age 23, passed away as a result of wounds he received at the site.
“The policeman, he looked very traumatised,” Fay added.
“He was trembling and clearly traumatised.
There is no doubt about that.
With 128 fatalities so far this year in Washington, the road toll is at its highest point in ten years, and the family of the 23-year-old man is the most recent to be in sorrow.
