On Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, a man was taken from the water this afternoon near Rye Pier; he later died.
Police believe the man entered the water at about 2.45pm.
He was not spotted for around 30 minutes and the police air wing was called to help find him.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., divers found him in the water and brought him back to the surface.
Despite receiving CPR, the man passed away at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.
