Rory Amon, a NSW Liberal member for Pittwater, has been charged after a probe into a reported sexual assault on Sydney’s North Shore
Amon has now left the party and denied any wrongdoing.
Detectives from Northern Beaches started looking into claims of a sex assault that may have happened in Mona Vale in July 2017 in June 2022.
Authorities received information that a man who the adolescent boy knew had reportedly sexually assaulted him at a Mona Vale location.
Strike Force Nooral was created in March 2023 to conduct an investigation.
About six a.m. today, Amon, 35, was taken into custody at the Manly Police Station.
He is accused with five charges of having sex with someone above the age of ten and under, two counts of trying to have sex with a child over the age of ten and under, two counts of indecent assault of a person under the age of sixteen, and one count of acting indecently towards a person under the age of sixteen.
Strict conditional bail was granted, requiring him to appear in Manly Local Court on September 18. As per the police, their inquiry is still ongoing.
In March 2023, Amon was chosen to serve as the Pittwater representative in the NSW election. From 2017 until 2023, he was a member of the Northern Beaches Council.

’Today I have been charged in relation to events alleged to have taken place in 2017.
I deny all charges, and will make my case in the courts, not in the media.
Accordingly, I will make no further comment on the case.
The nature of the charges against me are such that I will be unable to continue to fully represent my community in Parliament.
As a result, I have tendered my resignation as the Member for Pittwater, effective immediately.
The people of Pittwater should have a representative who can dedicate one hundred per cent of their time advocating for this wonderful community.
As I defend myself against these charges, I will not be able to devote my full energy to representing them.’
