A man from northern New South Wales has been found guilty of raping and violently attacking a lady in 2022 at the opulent The Star casino and hotel.
Two counts of sexual assault, four counts of rape, and one act of choking the victim in a room at a five-star Sydney hotel were all brought against 22-year-old Joel Nathan Fitzpatrick Burtt.
Fitzpatrick Burtt was present at Sydney’s Downing District Court on Tuesday to hear the jury’s verdict alongside his distraught mother and sisters.
Before correctional officers walked him off the pier, his family hugged and wept.
Fitzpatrick Burtt said, “I love you, mum.” “I’ll take care of myself.”
The victim was determined by the jury to have been sexually attacked and raped by Fitzpatrick Burtt on October 29, 2022, following a night out in Sydney.

After attending a mutual connection’s birthday party, the two went back to his hotel room, where he seized the woman by the neck and restrained her violently.
He struck her on the side of the head and sexually assaulted her after she turned down his advances for sex.
According to the prosecution, Fitzpatrick Burtt repeatedly sexually abused the woman before kicking her in the face when she began to cry, stomping on her, and dumping ice over her while she lay on the ground.
Screams were audible to witnesses next door.
After dealing with hotel security and police, she left the room and headed to the hospital.
The Suffolk Park man was acquitted of charges related to choking and violence from earlier reported occurrences.
On November 19, Fitzpatrick Burtt is scheduled to be sentenced.
