As if that weren’t enough, according to the authorities, he ultimately crashed into a house, killing the homeowner.
On upscale Hunters Hill in the northern part of the city, on John Street, the driver was suspected of being intoxicated.
He hit four parked automobiles before finding himself in a house where Leasa, the mother, and little Jasper De Klerk were asleep.
“It sounded like a really gigantic thunder strike,” Jasper recalled.
Leasa reported hearing a “huge bang” and running down to check what had happened.
“I opened the door and all I could see was a headlight in front of me,” she continued.
Leasa also witnessed the 61-year-old defendant and the hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of alleged damages.
“I’ve walked out, I’ve got a gentleman trying to get out of the car, I’ve got another car over here in my driveway that was absolutely written off and then another one that’s on its side,” she continued.
“It’s just phenomenal that no one was killed, it’s quite remarkable,” she stated.
After being brought to the hospital, the motorist is anticipated to face charges.
