At a Brunswick funeral, friends and family of Melbourne trader Davide Pollina, 19, recalled him as a young man with a “huge heart”.
The funeral, which featured talks, prayers, and music honouring the young man, drew hundreds of attendees.
After being struck in Preston by an allegedly stolen BMW carrying two teenagers, Pollina passed away.
“Davide was a mature, responsible man with a huge heart and he will always be missed,” a mourner remarked.
“Davide wanted to make sure I was happy and live his life.” I would constantly laugh with him,” another person remarked.
A concrete pumper that was extended stood as a last salute outside to the tradie, whose coworkers also attended the burial.
Last Monday, bail was granted to the youngster who is suspected of being the driver of the stolen BMW that struck and killed Pollina.
Only a few days after the parliament agreed to toughen bail regulations and target juvenile criminals, Pollina’s family expressed their shock.
They expressed their displeasure that the accused driver was given bail and their concern that he would commit further crimes.
His remains will be returned to Italy, and Pollina will be cremated.
Next month, the teenager will appear at a children’s court.
