If a chance for romance awaited on the other side of a crocodile-infested stream, would you swim more than a kilometre to cross it?
Two devoted lions attempted the behaviour three times, and Australian scientists captured it all on camera.
The largest variety of large mammals in the nation can be found in the 1978 square kilometre Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is home to Jacob the limping lion and his brother Tibu.
Dr. Alexander Braczkowski, a biologist from Griffith University, has been studying the pair, or “coalition” as the lions call them, for eight years.
“It’s truly a fascinating thing to kind of watch them and kind of watch their relationship,” Braczkowski said.
A trap that severed a portion of Jacob’s hind leg left him limping, and poachers poisoned most of the ten-year-old’s pride.
The brothers had suffered numerous attacks, and in January they were twice mauled in a 48-hour period by another pair of males.
Days later, Brackowski’s crew was amazed by what they accomplished rather than taking it easy and healing.
