A man whose body was recovered from the water at a well-known boat ramp in South Australia was described by his partner as kind, humorous, and grounded.
After the body was found in the water this morning, emergency personnel were dispatched to the Port Pirie ramp at Main Road in Solomontown, just after six in the morning. Simon Harris, a 50-year-old local, has been recognized as him.
He was accompanied by his partner, who wished to remain anonymous, and he “seemed alright” last night. She was heartbroken today.
“He’s a good bloke, he’d help anybody, yeah, if you were down and out he’d help you, made you laugh, he cared about everyone,” added the woman.
He was a practical man.
“He’ll be missed and by his family.”
His passing is also being processed by the community. “It’s a bit of a tragedy because its a tight-knit community and we have a lot of people that know everyone else,” a woman remarked.
Police are still investigating how he got into the water, but they don’t think his death was suspicious.
According to Mark News, as part of the investigations, police are looking through neighboring CCTV as divers search the area near the boat ramp.
In addition, a bike that Harris is thought to have been riding prior to his death is being examined.
