Police in Queensland shot a man they said was threatening them with a knife after what they called a “traumatic incident for all involved.”
Around 120 kilometres west of the Sunshine Coast, near Kingaroy, police were called to the hospital at 7:20 p.m. yesterday.
A man allegedly threatened police with a knife as soon as they arrived at the hospital’s entrance.
After then, the man was shot by police. He received medical attention prior to being evacuated to Sunshine Coast Hospital.
After surgery, his status is still serious but stable.
The individual, who was well-known to the authorities, is said to have been seen entering the hospital before the event while carrying a knife.
Detective Superintendant George Marchesini of the Queensland Police said, “This has been a traumatic incident for all involved.”
“Scenes like this are not what the police want to be involved in. “Considering what transpired, this was a last-resort measure with no other choices. “Police make a decision on the spot when that occurs.”
Officers and medical employees who were there at the scene are getting expert support.
Chief of the Queensland Police Union Ian Leavers said, “My colleagues, what they were confronted with last night will have an everlasting effect upon them.”
The command for ethical standards has designated a crime scene and is investigating the incident.
