Premier of Queensland, Steven Miles, has revealed his intentions to establish publicly owned gas stations in the event that he is re-elected in the next state election.
If Miles is re-elected in October, he has promised to build 12 state-owned gas stations and to curb daily price hikes at 5 cents per litre.
The premier promised that Queenslanders would pay less for fuel as a result of the decision.
“They will charge a fair price, increase competition, and give Queenslanders more choice when filling up,” he stated.
“We will also ban petrol stations from raising their price more than once a day, require petrol stations to release price changes a day in advance and cap price increases to no more than 5 cents a day, as part of a trial with the RACQ.”
According to Miles, the government-owned locations would run in Brisbane and a few other outlying places.
They would provide quick charges for electric cars in addition to selling gasoline and diesel.
Jarrod Bleijie, the deputy leader of the opposition, called the idea “economic vandalism” and claimed it would have the reverse effect on petrol costs.
“This is the dumbest policy I have seen from a Queensland premier,” he stated.
“From where did this originate? ”
Miles will wipe out independent retailers, therefore creating less competition in the marketplace, therefore driving up petrol prices for Queenslanders.”
