In the southwest of Sydney, a policeman fatally shot a guy moments after the man had allegedly stabbed him twice.
These days, his parents are pressuring the government to take greater action to enhance mental health services.
About eleven p.m. yesterday, Marco Fortoni of Middleton Grange, Liverpool, was observed by the police on Bird Walton Avenue brandishing a knife.
The 34-year-old reportedly tossed the firearm at a bystander’s automobile.
Before they could even exit their car, Fortoni allegedly attacked them when the cops came.
According to Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, the suspect hurried up to a police vehicle and stabbed the officer through an open window.
“I’m very thankful that the driver of the police vehicle – a 33-year-old senior-constable – was not seriously injured,” McFadden stated.
“We are very close to something that could have been fatal or life-threatening.”
“The damage to operational vest, was around his right shoulder, collarbone area, we’re talking centimetres from hitting another part of his body and causing catastrophic injuries.”
In just a few seconds, Fortoni received a Taser. According to the police, it didn’t work to stop him, so the senior constable shot him twice.
Until paramedics arrived, officers performed CPR, but he was not going to survive.
An examination into the critical incident is currently focused on their response.
Fortoni has mental health problems and an intellectual handicap, according to his parents, who spoke with Mark News.
They expressed their desire for the system to assist him more.
Pictures of him lounging on the lounge with his dog, Duke, were shared by his parents.
According to McFadden, an inquiry into the man’s mental state would be conducted as part of the ongoing probe into the incident.
“At this stage, we understand the male had been walking on the street,” he continued.
“The people that he’s interacted with, in that civilian vehicle, I don’t believe that they’re known to him, and that’s the thing that’s caused the member of the public concern and contacted the police.”
An independent review of the incident will also be conducted.
