In the light of bribery allegations, Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns has moved to suspend the CFMEU from the NSW Labor Party and to halt any donations or affiliation fees.
The move comes in response to a story published by Nine Newspapers today that claimed to have filmed NSW boss Darren Greenfield accepting $5,000 in payment from a covert police camera located inside the union’s Sydney office.
A judicial hearing is presently taking place on Greenfield’s claimed kickback in 2020, which he has refuted.
He is still the state secretary of the union and there is no indication that he is guilty.
The CFMEU Construction & General Division “clearly will not and cannot clean itself up,” according to a statement from Minns and Treasurer Daniel Mookhey.
Additionally, the state government will request that any Enterprise Bargaining Agreements in NSW to which the CFMEU is a party be reviewed by the Commonwealth Government.
According to the statement, the NSW Construction Compliance Unit will also cooperate with federal regulatory agencies and address any accusations.
