After being accused of killing an 85-year-old grandma who was discovered floating down a Melbourne river, a woman hobbled out of court.
On Sunday, the body of Lolene Whitehand, the accused victim, was found in the Maribyrnong River near Flemington.
According to Mark News, she was discovered with bruises on her body and a plastic-wrapped sack around her head.
Along with a 15-year-old kid, a 49-year-old West Footscray woman was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.
Police examined her and charged her; the youngster was freed without prosecution.
Police claimed the lady on trial was acquainted with the victim.
This afternoon, she appeared in Melbourne Magistrates hearing, where her attorney requested that the hearing be closed to the public and media.
After the hearing in closed court, a magistrate informed the media that he would suppress the woman’s name but failed to provide the reporters with an explanation.
“I will not be talking about those issues,” Magistrate Stephen Ballek declared.
According to the woman’s attorney, her client had steroid injections for nerve damage in her lower back.
She stated that the 49-year-old, who is presently on Lexapro and Valium, has been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and needs to visit a forensic nurse.
The woman didn’t submit a bail request.
The magistrate remanded the accused woman in custody to appear in court via video link on July 23 and instructed her to stand.
