In the isolated village of Kalkarindji, Northern Territory, a car tragedy has left one child dead and ten injured.
About 11:00 a.m. yesterday, authorities reported that a Toyota Prado with eleven occupants had collided on Mardiyardu Road, which runs between Kalkarindji and Lajamanu.
After then, the car is said to have been driven back into Kalkarindji, which is 500 miles outside of Darwin, where CareFlight personnel met it.
Not long after, an eight-year-old child was pronounced dead.
The injuries sustained by the other eleven passengers, who included a woman, 29, who was purportedly driving, were not life-threatening.
There were two crime scenes set up: one at the location of the collision and one at the car.
Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Musgrave stated, “This is a complex crash that has tragically resulted in the death of a small child involving alcohol and a large number of unrestrained passengers.”
The distant location has made communication challenging, he continued, but officers are still present at both locations.
The families of those involved are receiving help from the police, and they have requested anyone with information to come forward.
