A man who stole a car in a Melbourne CBD laneway and ran over the owner of the vehicle is the target of a massive manhunt.
About attempting to stop the stranger about 3pm yesterday, he managed to grab onto the bonnet of the red four-wheel-drive, but this resulted in terrible injuries.
CCTV footage shows a man on an e-scooter approaching the car on Hardware Lane, putting his scooter in the back seat, and jumping into the driver’s seat.
The man is wearing a blue sweatshirt. Bystanders raced to his rescue as the owner of the automobile attempted to drive off, standing in front of the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.
The owner grabbed onto the car’s bonnet while the thief drove down the street and over a speed bump.
He is finally driven over as the automobile accelerates, according to the video.
A few people tried to administer first aid to the car’s owner, who one witness described as seeming to be “in a bad condition.”
“We basically ran out and I saw how the guy was rolling under the wheels,” Rus, the witness, said.
“It was quite an absurd thing to see in the daylight.”
The man’s condition is stable and he is still at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Mark Hall, a senior constable, stated that the individual was fortunate to have only minor wounds.
“Our victim has then been dragged 15 to 20 metres at the front of the car then subsequently run over,” Hall explained.
