A tragic tragedy in Bali has left an Australian woman fighting for her life.
Rebecca Ode, a 36-year-old Newcastle resident, was sent to a hospital abroad earlier this week due to a fractured collarbone and shoulder.
To save her sight and stop the bleeding in her brain, she had to undergo a 14-hour surgery.
On Tuesday morning, her relatives in Newcastle got a call to inform them of her injuries.
As soon as he picked up the phone, her brother-in-law Jesse Wilton remembered hearing, “I’m a friend of Becky’s in Bali; she’s been in a tragic accident.”
“I asked for the truth; tell me how horrible it is.
Ode had to be transported from the island of Nusa Lembongan to a specialised facility in Denpasar via boat.
While relatives back home attempt to gather money to cover the cost of her medical evacuation, her mother and sister hurried to Bali, where they are keeping a bedside watch.
Her family believes she may have been the victim of a hit-and-run, but they are still unsure exactly what caused the accident.
Her sister Jordyn Ode remarked, “She is such a beautiful girl and deserves everything.”
Ode relocated to Bali in January of this year after her father’s untimely demise.
The hospital bills are getting closer to $250,000, and her family is now in a frantic attempt to get her back home.
