Shortly after he was accused of stabbing a student at the University of Sydney, a fourteen-year-old boy was spotted idly leaving the scene.
At approximately 8.35 a.m. today, the Camperdown campus on Parramatta Road was visited by police and paramedics.
When emergency personnel came, they discovered a 22-year-old who had been stabbed in the neck.
He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical but stable state.
Since then, the victim has left the hospital.
Bevan de Sousa, an employee at the institution, stated, “We were just sitting in our offices when we heard sirens going off and they locked down some of the buildings in the area.”
Just two minutes after the alleged stabbing, a boy wearing camouflage clothing was seen strolling at a leisurely pace on CCTV.
In the video, he is seen holding his damaged hand.
The 14-year-old Inner West child was taken into custody after he boarded a bus and went to the same hospital to receive treatment for small wounds on his hand, according to Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton of the Counterterrorism Command.
He stated there was no more risk to the community and the youngster was having a mental health evaluation.
At a press conference this afternoon, he stated, “A knife was recovered at the scene and there was a young person who fled the scene dressed in camouflage defence force uniform.”
The Joint Counter-Terrorism Committee of NSW is conducting an investigation.
“A motive or ideology, importantly, has not been determined at this time.”
However, Walton stated that it doesn’t seem like the youngster had a religious motive.
Although it is thought that the 22-year-old purported victim does not know the boy, police and government organisations are aware of him.
After searching the area, forensic investigators found many objects, including a backpack that had been left next to a fence.
Walton asked community members and parents to be mindful of the dangers of youth radicalization on the internet.
“Everyone should be concerned about this,” he stated.
The possibility of radicalization online exists.
The internet is poisonous, and young people in particular can easily get radicalised and turn violent.
“The University of Sydney has already said that there would be more police and security in the vicinity and that it is aware of an incident that occurred on campus. “The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and members of the community is our priority, and we continue to work with authorities,” stated a spokeswoman.
